Rosalyn Tonai (Project Director: May 2010 to October 2012)

The hiring of a consultant to conduct a general preservation assessment of collections documenting the Japanese American experience during the 20th century. The 30,000 items include photos, military records, scrapbooks, diaries, and objects covering World War II-era topics such as Japanese American involvement with the Army, internment, and postwar relocation.

The National Japanese American Historical Society (NJAHS) respectfully requests a grant of $6,000 from the NEH Preservation Assistance Grants for Smaller Institutions program. With the proposed Preservation Assistance Grant, NJAHS will contract Museum Consultant Paloma Añoveros to conduct a general preservation assessment of the institution’s historical collections of approximately 30,000 items.
