Digital Documentation Photography Training Workshop

Hiring a digital imaging consultant to conduct a three-day on-site training workshop on the proper use of digital photographic equipment for staff, interns, and volunteers from the Petterson Museum and invitees from all other local museums. The Museum has a general collection of 10,200 artifacts from every inhabited continent and includes folk art, fine art, and cultural objects from diverse societies from 10,000 BCE to the present. The geographic strengths of the collection's holdings include China, Latin America, the Pacific Islands, and North America, and there are also strong concentrations in costumes, textiles, ceramics, musical instruments, and dolls.

The Petterson Museum of International Art will conduct a 3-day hands-on workshop to train staff, interns, and volunteers in the proper use of digital photographic equipment for conservation documentation. The workshop will be led by a nationally-acknowledged authority, Timothy Vitale, and based on the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works publication "The AIC Guide to Digital Photography and Conservation Documentation." Topic areas to be covered include: best practices for creating and sustaining digital collections, standards for digital preservation, care and handling of collections during digitization, and lighting, exposure, and equipment selection. The Petterson Museum collections include artifacts from all corners of the world, including costumes, masks, ceramics, and sculptures that demonstrate mankind's endeavor through the ages to create objects of power and beauty. Personnel from area museums will be invited to participate.
