Digitization of 100,000 pages of Virginia
newspapers, dating from 1690 to 1963, as part of the state’s participation in
the National Digital Newspaper Program (NDNP).
During the 2019-2021 grant cycle of the National Digital Newspaper Program, the Library of Virginia and the Virginia Newspaper Project (VNP) propose the digitization of a selection of historically significant Virginia imprint newspapers for the period 1690-1963, with two areas of focus: antebellum and Civil War era newspapers and newspapers published during the early years of the Civil Rights movement, specifically 1958-1963. The titles will be selected in consultation with the Project's Advisory Committee. The goal is to contribute 100,000 pages of Virginia imprint newspapers to the Library of Congress for addition to Chronicling America.
