To catalogue and preserve the Library and archival collections of the Leo Baeck Institute, the only institute in the Western hemisphere specializing in history, literature and philosophy of German-speaking Jews from the 18th cen. through the 20th. The collection, acquired after the Second World War, was mac up of the remnants of European Jewish libraries, archives and research institutes, that had been destroyed by the Nazi terror and the ravages of war. The collection is partially catalogued and many books and documents are in need of extensive repairs and the establishment of proper preservation procedures.
