The purchase and installation of an environmental system, compact shelving, and lighting, and the completion of roof repairs. The project would address damage sustained during Hurricane Katrina.

This project will allow the Archives and Library of the Newcomb Center for Research on Women to make repairs needed as part of their recovery from the hurricanes of 2005 and in concert with long-range planning efforts. These improvements include 1) replacement of the roof; 2) replacement of the HVAC system; 3) purchase and installation of shelving; and 4) digitization of a unique oral history collection begun in the 1970s of some 500 cassette tapes. The Center holds some 1,600 cubic feet of the records and manuscripts of Newcomb College, its alumnae, and other women; and some 15,000 books focused on the education of women. Both the Archives and the Library document especially Newcomb pottery, the coordinate college structure, other programs of the college, and women's ways of educating themselves The Center is the only one in the region to hold membership in the National Council for Research on Women and scholars often praise its work as a unique treasure on the Gulf Coast.
