Relocating the collections of the Louisiana State Museum affected by Hurricane Katrina to the Old Mint Building in New Orleans and installing enhanced storage capacity.

The Louisiana State Museum proposes to return its nationally-important collections to New Orleans following an emergency evacuation post Katrina. The move will follow protocols established in consultation with Williamstown Art Conservation Center conservators. Storage conditions in New Orleans will also be improved via the installation of compact shelving, which will accommodate greater numbers of permanently boxed artifacts that can be more easily moved in the event of a future emergency.
