Maine Maritime Museum: Watercraft Collection Stabilization with Improved Public Access to Visible Storage

FAIN: PZ-50126-08

Maine Maritime Museum (Bath, ME 04530-2650)
Christopher Hall (Project Director: October 2007 to November 2011)

The stabilization of the watercraft collection and construction of visible storage for 117 historic Maine boats.

Maine Maritime Museum will improve and stabilize its 130-object watercraft collection, while simultaneously expanding public access to it, bringing these difficult-to-handle artifacts up to the same curatorial standards for organization and access as the rest of our varied collections. This work lays the foundation for future enhanced display and interpretation of our watercraft collection, to educate about Maine's role in the sea change our nation experienced as it passed from the 19th century's resource-based economy into the 20th century's modern industrial world.
