Bicentennial project to prepare the first comprehensive scholarly edition of the writings of George Washington (1732-1799). ABSTRACT: Bicentennial project to prepare the first comprehensive scholarly edition of the writings of George Washington (1732-1799), including letters written by and to him, heretofore existing in fragments and available only in major scholarly libraries or widely dispersed in private collections. Definitive edition will not exceed 75 volumes, the final volume to be published in 1988. To date, 75000 to 80000 document manuscripts have been collected, as well as 63 private letters. A cataloguing system, using date processing based on a plan developed at the Smithsonian Institution will be utilized. Funds for personnel and contractual services, supplies, documents.
