To write a book-lenth biography on the career of Edmund Randolph as attorney-general and governor of Virginia, member of the Continental Congress and the Constitutional Convention, attorney general and Secretary of State in Washington's cabinet. Randloph's career offers a unique opportunity for studying how the Revolution transformed the nation's political practices and ethics as well as its legal institutions.
