Edward T. James (Project Director: April 1975 to present)

To make available through microfilm an edition of the papers of the Women's Trade Union League and its principal leaders. The Women's Trade Union League, founded in 1903, sought for more than 4 decades to better the condition of women workers in the U.S. Since the League was a cooperative effort between middle-class reformers and women of the working class, its papers should throw light not only on the conditions of women in industry but also on changing middle-class attitudes toward the problem of poverty and on the interaction of different social groups in the process of social reform.
