American University (Washington, DC 20016-8200)
Charles McLaughlin (Project Director: November 1973 to present)

The purpose of this request is to enable work to continue on a five-volume edition of letters and other documents of Frederic Law Olmsted (1822-1903), gentleman farmer, traveler, author, landscape architect and city planner. The edition, to be published by Johns Hopkins University Press, will present annotated letters and other writings drawn from the approximately 60,000 items in the Frederick Law Olmsted Papers at the Library of Congress and holdings in over fifty other depositories.
