To support translation of and commentary on KITAB-I BAHRIYE, a 16th-century portolan or book of sailing directions written in Turkish by Piri Reis during the years 1524-26. This manual, the only one of its type written by a Muslim, is valuable for the study of the Mediterranean during the Renaissance.
