Research to produce 20th century portion of a definitive, annotated and subject-indexed bibliography of material pertaining to, but not by, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, together with substantial essays on the reputation of Coleridge and a review of Coleridge scholarship in the U.S. ABSTRACT: Research to produce 20th century portion of a definitive, annotated and subject-indexed bibliography of material pertaining to, but not by, Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772-1834), together with substantial essays on the reputation of Coleridge and a review of Coleridge scholarship in the U.S., Great Britain and elsewhere. All entries will contain complete bibliographical data, brief abstracts or descriptions and (for more substantial items) lists of reviews. Entire work (covering period 1794-1969) will be thoroughly indexed and cross-referenced with aid of a computer. Coleridge's work of interest to modern readers; he was poet, literary critic, aesthetician, philosopher, theologian, and political theorist; his work affected by and affecting English and German workers in these fields. His work has had prodound influence on American literature and thought. Bibliography will highlight important points and gaps, suggesting new directions for future work; indexes will identify general and specific topics, indicating over-worked neglected or overlooked topics; identify all significant and most of insignificant material pertaining to Coleridge, minimizing likelihood that old discoveries of fact and insight will continue to be published as new. Significant contribution to study of use of computers in humanistic research.
