Index to 38 leading monthlies and quaterlies, 1824-1900. ABSTRACT: Project to fill a major gap in scholarly resources for the Victorian era by providing an Index to some 38 leading monthlies and quarterlies, 1824-1900. Such periodicals supply aspects of contemporary thought and current concerns not in published books. Index has four special features: 1) tabular view of the contents, issue by issue, which also serves as record of subjects discussed at any given period and as a book review index; 2) indentification of anonymous and pseudonoymous pieces (85-90% of the total for the period), with reference to sources in which material is reprinted wherever possible; 3) bibliographies of articles for each contributor (a resource never before available); 4) index of pseudonyms for English periodicals. Index in preparation since 1958; Volume I published in 1966 by University of Toronto Press. Funds for 3 research assitants, index/proofreader, typist, London research assistant, supplies, travel, indirect costs.
