Project to fill major gap in scholarly resources for the Victorian era by providing an Index to some 38 leading monthlies and quarterlies, 1824-1900. ABSTRACT: Project to fill major gap in scholarly resources for the Victorian era by providing an Index to some 38 leading monthies and quarterlies, 1824-1900. Such periodicals supply aspects of contemporary thought and current concerns which do not exist in published books. Index has four special interests; 1) tabular view of the contents, issue by issue, which also serves as record of subjects discussed at any given period and as book review index; 2) identification of anonymous and pseudonymous pieces (85%-90% of the total of the period), with references to sources in which material is reprinted wherever possible; 3) bibliographies of articles for each contributor (a resource never before available); 4) index of pseudonyms for English periodicals. Index in preparation since 1958, Vol. I published in 1966 by University of Toronto Press. Important tool for scholarship in the field of Victorian literature and thought. Funds for research assistants, 3 index/proofreaders, indirect costs.
