The Gardens of Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Stabiae

FAIN: RO-11083-72

Wilhelmina F. Jashemski (Project Director: February 1972 to present)

Continued excavation and study will result in a book that will discuss the hundred of gardens preserved by Vesuvius. While NEH grantee, Mrs. Jashemski made significant discoveries that revolutionize commonly held ideas about ancient cities. (Her discoveries indicate that the area surrounding Pompeii was used for agrarian purposes, not idustrial purposes as commonly believed).
