The Origin of the State: A Case Study

About 200-400 years ago, the nothern half of the Bura-speaking peoples of Nigeria developed a Muslim form of government while the souther half remained organized along non-state lines. This study is a detailed attempt to find out how the split happened and what effects it has upon the contemporary culture and society of the region.
