To complete the research and writing up for publication of the excavations at the Roman port of Cosa in Italy. It has unique interest for archaeology, for it is the earliest Roman harbor known to us, dating from the third century, B.C. Its place in the evolution of Roman port construction and the early maritime history of Italy is thus a crucial one for it forms a link between the ports of the Greeks and Etruscans and elaborate man-made harbors of the empire.
