To locate and prepare a descriptive listing of all unpublished manuscript or recorded collections of Midwest folksong in academic, public or special libraries as the first consistent effort to make accessible to scholars the vast stores of un-archived and often forgotten collection of folksong. The goal is to set a pattern that can lead to the eventual preparations of a reference guide to American foldksong manuscripts.
