Archeological Excavations at the Ninety Six Jail Site
FAIN: RO-11871-74
Star Fort Historical Commission (Ninety Six, SC)
Michael J. Rodeffer (Project Director: August 1974 to present)
The Ninety Six jail was the first constructed in the South Carolina backcountry, and was fortified as a redoubt on two occasions during the Revolutionary War. The archeological investigation at the Ninety Six site will provide information to supplement the meager historical record describing the courthouse village and military actions at Ninety Six. Funds will be used principally for the salaries of the field party.
