Herbert G. Gutman (Project Director: September 1974 to present)

The project is a large scale reexamination of the processes of cultural adaptation by first-generation immigrant (mostly Italian and Jewish) and migrant (black) families to New York city (1900-1930). The funds will be used to conduct interviews with selected elderly immigrants and migrants and to relate the evidence to quantitative data.
