To complete the excavation of the hippodrome at Sirmium. This project will help solve the many problems of the purpose and function of hippodromes in the Roman Empire. In addition, a series of archaelogical levels within the hippodrome, dating to the period when the building was used as a refuge during the migration period, will give the first complete cultural information of the invading tribes of the 5th and 6th century, and will illuminate the interrelationships between conquered and conquerors.
