Mounting concern over a deteriorating environment has intensified the interest of historians as well as the general public in the role of America's natural resources in the national welfare. Forest History Society hopes to produce both a Guide to the unpublished sources of North American Forest History and an annotated Bibliography of the Published Sources of North American Forest History. Groups served by this project will include: (a) scholars seeking a broad database with which to evaluate policies and practices in forest resource use; (b) public groups needing references to historical sources on complex environmental questions; (c) public and private officials seeking information on historical precedents in natural resource management
