Definition of Brushwork-Oriented Literati Aesthetic

FAIN: RO-12155-74

Joan Stanley-Baker
Unaffiliated independent scholar

To examine the brushwork-oriented aesthetic criteria governing scholar (Literati) painting in late Ching (1644-1912). While such aesthetics have dominated Chinese painting since the 14th century, it remained a "secret transmission” exclusive to the Literati. This project will become a key for the understanding of traditional Chinese art.
