To complete fieldwork for (1) a detailed linguistic of Arikara and Pawnee, two closely related American Indian languages, and (2) collection of ethnographic and historical material on the Arikara. Results, dictionaries of both languages and a grammar of Arikara as well as collections of mythological and historical texts in both languages and data to supplement available material and allow for a general cultural history of the Arikara. Study is significant because of need to preserve these languages and the cultural history of these tribes. Languages are on the brink of extinction.
