To observe, study and record the dances and movement patterns of three main Hasidic communities in the U.S. during their religious rituals and celebrations. Hasidism is a branch of Orthodox Judaism born in 18th century Eastern Europe. The groups to be studied will be the Chabad, Lubairtch, Bobover and Bostoner Communities of Brooklyn, New York. The dances will be collected and studied along with the accompanying musical and liturgical texts. The material will then be codified and edited for eventual publication by the Dance Notation Bureau.
