This is a comprehensive reference work giving information on the lives of some 8,500 persons who contributed in any way to the patent theaters, opera houses, fair booths, concert halls and pleasure gardens in London in that period. Published seriation, the volumes represent much original research and offer a number of corrections to standard works of reference such as the Dictionary of National Biography, Grove's Dictionary of Music and Musicians and The London Stage.
