Publication of volumes 9 and 11, and continued editorial work on volumes 10 and 12 for a critical edition of the Writings of Charles S. Peirce. (24 months)

The mission of the Peirce Edition Project is to produce a chronologically arranged critical edition of a substantial part of the writings of American philosopher and scientist Charles S. Peirce (1839-1914). The writings are edited for print and electronic media by a multidisciplinary staff with the assistance of a team of internationally recognized advisors and contributors. The funds now being requested are for work on four volumes, two of which (W9 and W11) will be brought to publication during the grant period. These volumes will include Peirce's ground-breaking 1992-93 Lowell Lectures on the history of science and his famous "unpublished" book, "The Grand Logic." This will make a significant contribution to American intellectual history and to philosophy.
