Translation and annotation of Alexander von Humboldt's Political Essay on the Kingdom of New Spain, first published in 1811. (12 months)
The Humboldt in English (HiE) project proposes new translations of three books by Alexander von Humboldt, the Essai politique sur l’île de Cuba (1826), the Vues des Cordillères et monumens des peoples indigènes de l’Amérique (1813), and the Essai politique sur le royaume de la Nouvelle-Espagne (1811). The team is requesting support for completing the translation of the Essai politique sur le royaume de la Nouvelle-Espagne (1811). This series of new, unabridged, and annotated translations is under contract with the University of Chicago Press and will be available in print and on a free-access internet platform. Our editions will provide reliable scholarly translations for students and scholars of transatlantic intellectual history, colonial American history, pre-Columbian studies, literary studies, and a range of other cross-disciplinary fields, most notably geography and environmental studies.
