The Japan-U.S. Research Conference on Libraries and Information Science in Higher Education of the American Library Association proposes to work toward an agreement on internationally accepted standards of agreement on compatible systems of bibliographic data exchange. Moreover, the ALA proposes to plan concrete programs of cooperative action in the development of library collections and international library standards, as well as seek to expedite the flow of library materials and librarians between Japan and the U.S. The ALA seeks to establish a system of Universal Bibliographic Control along with the future development of national and international library networks based on electronic transmission of data.
