To hold a conference at the University of Southern California Center for the Humanities bringing together outstanding scholars from a range of disciplines for the purpose of examining the role of the humanities in society, and the relationship between the humanities and other modes of thought, including the sciences and the professions. Papers presented will appear in the first two issues of Humanities in Society, and in a series of National Public Radio broadcasts.
