To stimulate renewed research into Spinoza's philosophy and views on religion through a conference in which papers will be presented and discussed by scholars of philosophy from all parts of the world. Four areas of particular significance to modern scholarship will be main focus: 1) Spinoza's methodological integration of moral philosophy and scientific rigor; 2) mystical and messianic elements in Spinoza's thought; 3) Spinoza's notion of human freedom; and 4) Spinoza's critique of traditional religion.
