Single-Parent Families and Extended Family Kin-Helping Relationships

FAIN: RX-10139-78

University of Notre Dame (Notre Dame, IN 46556-4635)
James Stewart (Project Director: May 1978 to present)

A conference bringing together national scholars of black family history to explore the role of extended family kin-helping relationships in promoting stability among black single parent families. Extended families will be viewed as both mental health resources and sources of conflicting societal values; to what extent do the help or pose special problems for single-parent families? The humanistic dimensions of family-oriented studies will be the focal point of the conference.
