To support the research, writing, and editing of Vols 2, 4, 5A-5B, and 9A-9B, covering the history of China from the Han, Sui, Tang, Sung (3rd-13th c.) dynasties, and Ch'ing dynasty (1644-1800) of the CAMBRIDGE HISTORY OF CHINA.
The project is designed to enable us to continue work from 1 July 2000 to 30 June 2003 on the remaining volumes, 2, 4, 5B, 9A, and 9B of the Cambridge History of China. The project covers the costs of intensive editorial work needed to make each multi-authored volume consistent, comprehensive, and coherent. The Cambridge History of China, when completed, will cover the history of China from the third century B.C. to the death of Mao Tes-Tung in 15 volumes, 11 of which are now published. Together with the separate Cambridge History of Ancient China, it will present the largest collaborative scholarly history of China in any language: it is currently being translated into Chinese.
