To support the completion of a translation of the extant speeches and writings of Mao Zedong for the pre-1949 period, before the foundation of the People's Republic of China.
This project will complete the work of translating the available writings of Mao Zedong for the period prior to the foundation of the People's Republic of China in 1949. The present proposal is for support for the editing and interpretation of the texts making up Volume VIII of this project, which covers the period 1942 to July 1945, when Mao was finally victorious in his struggle to become the Chines Communist Party's undisputed leader. Editorial activity at the last stage of this massive project will include the complex task of ensuring that the coherence of the entire edition is maintained to the end.
