FAIN: RZ-50106-03

University of California, Santa Barbara (Santa Barbara, CA 93106-0001)
Anita Guerrini (Project Director: September 2002 to July 2009)

Research into the human and natural history of a southern California wetland, to culminate in a book discussing the ecological restoration of the wetland, as well as broader issues related to the role of historical knowledge in ecological restoration projects in general. (36 months)

This project aims to reassess the role of human history in the theory and practice of ecological restoration. By means of a case study of a southern California wetland with an extensive human and natural history, this project will provide a practical and theoretical basis for the integration of historical questions, methods, and approaches into the process of ecological restoration.
