An international conference, a volume of essays, and an online bibliographic database addressing the institutions, traditions, and practices of musical pedagogy in the Early Modern Period. The conference (June 2-5, 2005) at The Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University includes the perspectives of a number of disciplines, The volume of essays and the web-based bibliography resulting from the conference would be completed by December 2005. The overall project is intended to bring this neglected subject to the attention of the musicological field as a whole, and to fill a void in a critical area of scholarship, important to our discipline as it already is to others in the humanities in general.
