Creation of an archive of materials pertaining to women's writing in England and America from 1770 through1830, and a series of collaborative articles about women's writing. (36 months)

This project will produce a detailed analysis of the reception history of women's writing in the late 18th and early 19th centuries in England and America, with emphasis on the emergence of a transatlantic literary culture. We will identify, collect and analyze materials documenting the reception and readership of women's writing, focusing in particular on periodical reviews as well as manuscript and other sources. Working with these materials, we will produce a set of collaboratively authored articles; these and the primary source materials will be published in a freely accessible form as part of Women Writers Online (http://www.wwp.brown.edu).
