Land Grant College and University presidents will compose essays that will create a volume which will focus on the historical perspectives on American cultural and intellectual history that contextualize the rise of public higher education in the United States both before and after the Morrill Land Grant Act of 1862. This work will seek to deepen understanding of the role of America's public institutions of higher education in the development of the nation and of its capacity for scholarship, research, and innovation, while imagining a viable future for those institutions.
