To support local humanities initiatives and state humanities council operations.
Mission Statement: The New York Council for the Humanities provides leadership and support across the state’s intellectual and cultural sectors through grants, programs, networking and advocacy in order to encourage critical thinking and cultural understanding in the public arena. Vision Statement: Solidify the Council’s role as a statewide convener, advocate and leader through strategic partnerships that build and strengthen the public humanities in New York State using networking, grants, flexible programs, and thematic initiatives. Serve as the leading national resource for innovative discussion-based humanities programs by demonstrating and sharing best practices, developing replicable program models, and offering training in facilitation and program management. Programs offered by the Council include: Adult Reading and Discussion; Community Conversations; Humanities Centers Initiative; Humanities Convening; Public Scholars; and Regrants.
