General operating support for state or territorial humanities council

The Amerika Samoa Humanities Council (ASHC) is a 501(C)3 nonprofit organization, that was established in 1995 for the first time in American Samoa, a U.S. Territory. The Council is made up of 8 sitting Board Members, although in its' By-Laws, a minimum of 7 and a maximum of 12 members are allowed. The Council's strategic programs each year are implemented to support the mission of the National Endowment for the Humanities. 1) To increase and advance knowledge and understanding of the humanities, and 2) to increase public awarenss, access to, and appreciation of the humanities at the national and local level. Thus, we have a competitive grant program to make funding available to local non-profit organizations and ad-hoc groups. The Council also initiates its own projects tailored to local interest and educational needs in any discipline of the humanities.
