Author: South County Museum
Abstract: A museum educator’s primary job is to build connections between life today and the past. It is the most rewarding aspect of my job. History comes to life for countless school students who visit the museum each year. My mission: help them connect their backyard, their neighbor’s last name, or the building they pass every day to America’s most historic moments. The current pandemic has emphasized how priceless in-person learning experiences really are.

Rhody Radio: RI Library Radio Online (Radio/Audio Broadcast or Recording)Title: Rhody Radio: RI Library Radio Online
Director: Jessica D'Avanza
Abstract: Rhody Radio’s primary goal was to provide a virtual programming venue for libraries during COVID restrictions, and absolutely achieved this goal, producing 86 episodes of the podcast during the grant window with a total of 6241 listens. Our goals for the project also included supporting library staff in participating in the project, which we did through the creation of a website with resources for creators and through training by the Rhody Radio team, as well as hosting professional podcaster Kristen Meinzer (and author of So You Want to Start a Podcast), for a workshop on podcast episode show structure.

Kingston Chamber Music 2021 Festival Program Notes (Web Resource)Title: Kingston Chamber Music 2021 Festival Program Notes
Author: Dr. Michael Fink, PhD
Abstract: n response to Covid 19, the Kingston Chamber Music Festival went online for the 2020 season with the extraordinary assistance of Swan Studios in NYC. We recorded our six festival concerts and aired them via our website in August/September 2020. The festival was an early adopter of online programming during the pandemic. People were hungry for any type of performance at that point, and the festival videos were viewed over 3000 times. As we shifted to online concerts, we realized the importance of making our website more engaging for viewers since it would be their “concert hall,” and we invested in a redesign of our website. Once the website was completed, we realized that our program notes, previously provided in printed format only, seemed heavy and out-of-sync with what was needed to appeal to on-line viewers. The format for the notes had been the same for many years; they were dense and focused primarily on the musicality of each piece. While festival staff recognized that more engaging notes would encourage viewers to watch the concerts as well as inform them about the music, the festival did not have the time or resources to redesign the program notes for the 2020 season.
We were determined to make the shift for 2021, particularly when it became clear that the festival would need to deliver its concerts online for a second season.
