Development of a script for a ninety-minute documentary about the social, cultural, and political legacies of European Jews who found refuge in Shanghai, China, during the late 1930s.
The proposed development project will prepare for production of a documentary about the Shanghailanders, who were European Jews fleeing Nazi persecution in the late 1930s, and who were denied entry by one country after the other; except for one surprising place that didn’t require entry visas and offered them safe refuge: Shanghai, China.
