An Art of Choice: Lucinda Childs Sample Reel (Film/TV/Video Broadcast or Recording)
Title: An Art of Choice: Lucinda Childs Sample Reel
Writer: Sharon Wood
Director: Jack Walsh
Producer: Christine Murray
Producer: Jack Walsh
Abstract: Beginning with a contemporary performance by Lucinda Childs with the LA Philharmonic, the film jumps back six decades to the start of her career in the early 1960s. Through interviews, historically documented performances and photographs we learn about her collaborations with composers Philip Glass and John Adams, theater director Robert Wilson and architect Frank Gehry. We also learn of her romantic involvement with writers Jill Johnston and Susan Sontag. Throughout scholars articulate and comment on various aspects of Childs choreographic strategies to provide a framework about her impact on dance and on the visual arts.
