Bowery Arts & Science, Ltd. (New York, NY 10012-2861)
Robert S. Levi (Project Director: August 2009 to April 2014)

Development of a television documentary about jazz musician Hank Jones.

This request is for funding the development of "Hank Jones: Last Man Playing," a ninety-minute, Hi-Def film about the life and work of the celebrated African-American composer, arranger, and pianist Hank Jones. "Hank Jones: Last Man Playing" is the story of America and its music seen through the eyes of the one of the great jazz pianists and composers. Among the most respected and influential figures in jazz and cultural life, Jones will provide us with an insider's view of many of the seminal cultural and historical events of the 20th Century. The recent death of guitar icon Les Paul makes Hank Jones, at ninety-one, a final witness to the cultural legacy of a dynamic and still influential period.
