Production of a six-part television documentary series about the history and culture of Ancient Greek civilization from the Bronze Age through the Roman annexation of Greece in 146 BCE.

The National Geographic Society seeks an America's Media Makers Production Grant - Chairman's Special Award from the National Endowment for the Humanities in the amount of $1 million, to support In the Footsteps of Heroes: a comprehensive six-part television series about ancient Greece, to be produced by National Geographic Television. In the Footsteps of Heroes traces the history and culture of the ancient Greek civilization, analyzing the ways in which it inspired and influenced future societies. Informed by a panel of leading scholars and experts and produced in spectacular hi-definition, the series will take an interdisciplinary approach to the examination of new evidence, new thinking, and new interpretations which combine to more fully illuminate the picture of Greek civilization, bring the ancients to life, and reveal the depth of the Greek contribution to Western civilization.
