The Audio History Project

FAIN: TR-50114-10

Radio Diaries, Inc. (Brooklyn, NY 11201-8319)
Joe Kirk Richman (Project Director: August 2009 to present)

Production of eight radio documentaries on forgotten episodes in American history to air on National Public Radio's All Things Considered. The project would also include an interactive website and public programs.

Radio Diaries Productions seeks to produce The Audio History Project, a series of radio documentaries to be broadcast on National Public Radio uncovering little-known chapters of 20th century American history. The project will explore memory through the stories we remember and forget as a society; the stories that connect us; and what these stories tell us about who we were, who we are, and who we may become. In Radio Diaries' signature style, these documentaries will be told without scripted narration, by weaving together intimate first-person accounts, vintage archival audio, and interviews with scholars to create an audio scrapbook of America's attic. Radio Diaries will produce a series of 8 historical documentaries; four half-hour, format-breaking stories and four shorter features; broadcast on NPR's All Things Considered, reaching an audience of 12 million listeners.
