Darryl Ford Williams (Project Director: January 2012 to present)

Production of a 90-minute television documentary about the life and work of playwright August Wilson (1945-2005).

"August Wilson: The Ground On Which I Stand" will be a 90-minute high-definition television documentary and the first in-depth exploration of the life, work, and cultural impact of two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning African-American playwright, August Wilson (1945-2005). From the 1980s into the first decade of the 21st century, he was the most produced playwright both on Broadway and in regional theaters, creating his unprecedented ten-play Century Cycle, which chronicles the economic, historical, social, and spiritual life of African Americans through each decade of the twentieth century. " August Wilson: The Ground On Which I Stand" will be a co-production of the PBS series, "American Masters" and WQED Multimedia, Pittsburgh. The film will serve as the centerpiece of a multi-platform educational outreach program that, subject to additional funding, will include a sophisticated interactive internet website and potentially a traveling physical exhibition for museums and cultural centers.
