Production of a series of 12 historical documentaries ranging in length from 13 to 23 minutes to be broadcast on NPR's "All Things Considered" and a companion website.

With funding from the NEH, the Audio History Project (AHP) has been uncovering little-known chapters of 20th century American history and bringing the past to life on public radio. Over the past two years, our stories have won numerous awards, been reviewed in the "New York Times" and other publications, have been recognized as some of the most innovative and compelling stories on NPR, and have helped establish a home for historical documentaries on one of the nation's largest national news programs. With this proposal, Radio Diaries is seeking multi-year support to continue and expand the AHP. With a three-year production grant (Oct '12-Sept '15) from NEH, Radio Diaries will produce a series of 12 historical documentaries to be broadcast on NPR's "All Things Considered." With this funding, we plan to build momentum for the series and expand the project to include more international stories, more emphasis on investigative research, and a greater focus on digital storytelling.
