Scripting of a 90-minute film about Johnny Cash, the iconic country singer/songwriter.

CASH: The Documentary will be an in-depth film portrait of Johnny Cash, the iconic American country singer/songwriter who reached across musical boundaries to influence generations of folk, blues, gospel and rock audiences. Kris Kristofferson called him "a walking contradiction, partly truth and partly fiction" and it was true: Cash was a wild, hard-living man who had deep religious convictions and spoke up for the underdog; he was also an intensely private man who was most energized when performing in front of huge crowds. His story illuminates several important humanities themes, including the role of iconic heroes in our shared narrative, the complexities of defining "authenticity" in country music and Southern culture, and the intertwined forces of religion and culture in 20th century America. The film will use a wide selection of Cash's songs, clips of his performances, home movies, and interviews with family, friends and fellow musicians to tell the story of the "Man in Black."
